I was born in lək̓ʷəŋən Territory “Victoria, Canada” and now live and work on the unceded territories of the səlilwətaɬ, Sḵwx̱wú7mesh, and xʷməθkʷəy̓əm “Vancouver, Canada”. My practice is rooted in an embodied engagement with celluloid filmmaking and sculpture, with a focus on the body’s relationship to these media. I conceive of the camera as a bodily extension of the human sensorium—a device through which one can feel time and perception, aiding or altering one's experience of the world. My films are a means to understanding care, more-than-human relations, and queer intimacies through visibility and embodiment.
As a visual artist working in film and sculpture, my work has been exhibited at the Vancouver Art Gallery; the Institute of Contemporary Art, Philadelphia; the Alberta Museum of Art; Western Front, Vancouver; Artspeak, Vancouver; and the Walter Phillips Gallery, Banff Centre, among other museums and galleries internationally. My films have also been screened at festivals and museums around the world, including the International Film Festival Rotterdam, Netherlands; The Cinematheque, Vancouver; Images Festival, Toronto; Berwick Film and Media Art Festival, Berwick-upon-Tweed, UK; Hyde Park Picture House, Leeds, UK; the University of Wisconsin, Milwaukee; Anthology Film Archives, NYC; Le Plaza Cinema, Geneva, Switzerland; the Jewish Museum, New York; and the Stedelijk Museum, Amsterdam.
I graduated with a Meisterschülerin from the Städelschule in Frankfurt, Germany, in 2010 and received a Bachelor of Media Arts from Emily Carr Institute of Art + Design in 2004.
